For the Diploma in Music, there are 5 compulsory modules in Semester 1:

DMU1151Principal Study 1A is the module directly associated with your instrumental specialization or composition. The curriculum is focused and rigorous, designed to develop both technical proficiency and artistic expression through progressive levels of challenges. You will work closely with your assigned Principal Study lecturer in weekly one-on-one sessions. In addition to individual lessons, you will participate in weekly performance classes, providing an opportunity to perform for your peers and receive constructive feedback. Attendance at weekly music platforms, featuring performances by your schoolmates, is also required. Learning to support one another and fostering a sense of community is essential for your growth as a musician.8 Credits
DMU1152Professional Studies 1A is a collective module comprising a range of classes designed to develop students’ collaborative skills in musicianship. Primarily, students will participate in various ensemble groups based on their instrument. Additionally, they will attend faculty-specific classes that explore critical elements to expand their knowledge and enhance their soft skills.4 Credits

focuses on developing and strengthening fundamental theoretical and aural abilities. This module aims to deepen students’ understanding of music, enabling them to communicate with greater intent and conviction. Through these insights, students will gain the ability to craft musical narratives that reflect the styles and practices of different historical periods. DMU1182Cross-Disciplinary Creative Practices introduces students to a diverse array of artistic disciplines within NAFA, spanning visual arts, design thinking, and theatre. Leveraging NAFA’s abundant resources and capitalizing on its status as a multi-disciplinary arts institution, this module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of various artistic practices. By exploring connections between music and other art forms, students broaden their perspectives and develop a holistic approach to creative expression.2 Credits
